Tara smiled gently at her friend. Janet had adjusted to her new plane of existence rather well. They'd both been recruited by the powers to...be something like Guardian Angels, or at least that seemed to be the simplest term to sum up their duties.
The Ascended didn't like interference and thought this was their realm, that the Powers should limit themselves to their own 'business'.
Tara and Janet had been...Janet called it Angel Boot Camp. Learning the ways to nudge, when and how to directly interfere without being noticed. The Powers and the Ascended were trying to hammer out a deal. Earth was the Powers territory, along with supernatural, hell dimensions and the like. The Ascended watched over numerous planets and actually had a territory as large as the Powers though they didn't really do anything.
"Don't worry, sugar, it'll work out, or else."
Tara's smile widened. "You intend to take on the Ascended yourself."
"Why not? I think their enlightenment needs some reevaluation."
"Tara, Janet" the Supervisor called.
Janet's war whoop was heard throught the halls of the PTB.

There was further hemming and hawing and fussing and dithering. Two 'newbies' being given such a controvertial assignment was cause for a lot of fuss. Especially when more than one had a bone to pick with the Ascended and their "Enlightened Non-interference" which had caused the Powers and their avatars and warriors a great deal of trouble over the millenia.
Several put forward their cases that they were more experienced and deserved the assignment. Janet was having none of it. She was the one that knew the situation that their charges were in best and she was having Tara for a partner.

"I thought they were going to bicker for another fifty years."
"Time moves differently there..."
"Time doesn't move there. And half of them don't bother to keep up with places time does move."
Tara giggled softly, the truth of that statement undeniable.
"What a night to start." Janet looked around at the yard.
"I think it's nice."
"Yeah."
"Snow. Perfect Christmas Eve."
Janet smiled. "Shall we?"
Tara nodded.

"Daniel--" Janet pointed. "That's Jack. Sam and Pete. Teal'c. General Hammond." her gaze softened and she smiled. "Cassie."
"Xander!" Tara yelped.
"What-"
"Him, that's Xander. What's he doing here? He's supposed to be in Africa looking for slayers."
"Xander--Sunnydale Xander?"
"Uh huh."
"Well sugar, if he's here he's ours to watch over now. Everyone here when we arrived..."
"This--this could be interesting." Tara said still confused by Xander's presence.
"Wonder what the Pricks that Be were thinking that they didn't tell us about this." Janet shook her head.
