"It's a very generous offer, Mr. Murdock," Lilah said. It was too. An offer that was almost enough to infuriate her. When Murdock joined Wolfram and Hart he'd be only slightly below her in pay scale and authority.

Murdock had built himself a thriving practice the last fifteen years from nothing. Gutter trash with a wornout drunk of a boxer for a father. Orphaned. Blinded. One would think he'd already made promises in certain places to get where he had. Lilah was still slightly disbelieving Murdock hadn't made any deals but actually accomplished all this on his own. Not to mention his...other talents.

"That it is, Ms. Morgan, if one is interested in dealing with the devil. I am not."

Lilah was startled. That remark hit a little to close to home. Not that any of the Senior Partners were actually the devil, as in Lucifer, they certainly could be aptly described as such, especially by plebian minds with tunnel vision of being decent and good and suffering the mundane as well as the painful with nothing more than a shrug as it was simply part of life.

"You reek of demons and deciet and I have no further interest in this conversation. I will never work for your firm. Now if you'll show yourself to the door I have closing arguments to go review for tomorrow. Good evening."

"You may regret this, Mr. Murdock,"

"Goodbye, Ms. Morgan,"

Lilah exited the offices with her head held high. She walked the ten blocks through Manhattan to the alley where the mage was waiting.

"He's not coming."

"No,"

"Did you expect him to?"

"No, but the Senior Partners will be displeased all the same," Lilah sighed.

The mage nodded and began the spell for the dimensional vortex. Since her death Lilah had been doing endless headhunting of the corporate variety through dozens of realities. She forgot which reality she was even in most days. She had an excellent recruitment record, and even the Senior Partners had to admit Matt Murdock had been a long shot. She just hoped she didn't end up busted down to some third ring hell lord's secretary for this.
