It was a test from the senior partners. He couldn't mess this up. He absolutely couldn't. The Senior Partners wanted to verify beyond a doubt the location of the Witchblade and it's weilder. He swallowed nervously, the Witchblade could possibly react to him, read his intent. He had to clear his mind as much as possible and focus on his job.

If the weilder of the Witchblade didn't kill him, the Senior Partners most certainly would. Failure was absolutely not an option.

Sarah Pezzini frowned at the man. She didn't quite know what it was but he set off her instincts. Nothing to do with the Witchblade, just pure cop instinct. Oily seemed a good description. Too cool too slick, too quick an answer for everything. She couldn't put her finger on it.

"Mr. Park, I have to say again I have never known a Charlotte MacKenna and I have not the slightest clue why the woman would leave me a necklace valued at over twenty--"

"Thirty-nine thousand, eight hundred and seventy five dollars."

"You know the cents too?" Sarah snapped.

"Not off hand, no, but it would only take a phone call..."

"No, never mind. Why would a complete stranger leave me a necklace worth just shy of forty thousand dollars."

"Ms. Pezzini, I have no knowledge of my client's motivations. Only of her final wishes which as executor to her will I am carrying out. The necklace is in a safe deposit box at First Manhattan bank. You need to accompany me so I can retrieve it, you sign the papers and the necklace is yours to do with as you wish."

"It doesn't make sense."

"I am only doing my job, Ms. Pezzini. If it makes you feel any better Mrs. MacKenna seemed to have made several similar random gifts. She had apparantly made a habit of picking those she bestowed things on from reading about them in various news papers."

"Crazy old rich lady in California pulled my name out of a newspaper and decided to leave me a forty thousand dollar necklace for no reason?"

"In a word, yes, Ms. Pezzini"

Gavin walked into the Los Angeles Offices of Wolfram & Hart triumphant. In the end Sarah Pezzini had accepted the necklace, John Smith accepted the set of first edition books. David Creegan was convinced to accept the painting. Mission accomplished. Not only did the witches employed by Wolfram and Hart have a way to keep track of Detective Pezzini and the Witchblade but two others that could possibly become bothersome to the Home Office.
